JANET B. REID, Ph.D., CEO & Founder

 

Janet B. Reid, Ph.D. is the founder and CEO of BRBS World, LLC--a private, boutique, global management consulting consortium located in Cincinnati, Ohio. She and the consortium serve a select group of forward-leaning clients whose growth is dependent upon retaining world-class leaders who value diversity and inclusion. She has extensive board experience and a long track record of civic service.

 

Before founding BRBS World, Dr. Reid was Founder, Managing Partner, and Director of the international management consulting firm, Global Novations, LLC. Global Novations, a former Goldman Sachs portfolio company, conducted client work in over 40 countries and specialized in leveraging diversity and inclusion to build clients’ organizational capacity, innovation, and market share. She and the ownership group successfully completed the sale of Global Novations, LLC to Korn Ferry International, a global, publicly-traded executive search and talent management firm.

 

Prior to founding Global Novations, Dr. Reid spent a decade at the Procter and Gamble Company where she first made significant contributions in the innovation and product development division and later in the marketing and branding division.  In addition to her scientific and marketing work, Dr. Reid was a trailblazer in leading diversity and inclusion initiatives and was awarded a Procter and Gamble Pioneering Woman award for groundbreaking results in impacting corporate culture.

 

She is a thoughtleader in diversity and inclusion as co-author of The Phoenix Principles: Leveraging Inclusion to Transform your Company and The Phoenix Principles Work Book, with V. Randolph Brown.  She and Vincent Brown developed the concepts of Cultural DexterityTM, Familarity, Comfort and Trust (FCTTM), Global BeadsTMand many other intellectual properties of Global Novations. Dr. Reid also created the powerful executive coaching and team building suite of solutions entitled Success PathTM, Success Path PairsTM, and Success Path TeamsTM (more commonly referred to as “Pairs Training”). The Success PathTM suite has had a significant impact on over 10,000 executives worldwide.

 

Her current passion is researching the application of advances in neuroscience and behavioral sciences to diversity and inclusion. She has teamed once more with V. Randolph Brown to assemble a group of scientists in Europe and the United States who, together with diversity and inclusion practitioners, will bring new thought to the subject. In the future, she plans to publish outcomes from this nascent field.

 

Dr. Reid has personally consulted on all aspects of talent management and domestic and global diversity and inclusion with Boards of Directors, CEOs, Presidents, and all levels of leaders and associates in hundreds of Fortune 500 multinational corporations; institutions of higher education; government agencies, and national not-for-profit organizations.

 

In addition to consulting, training and executive coaching, one of Dr. Reid’s principal areas of expertise is global diversity and inclusion and the business and social effects of globalization on corporations. She developed and led the multinational strategy for Global Novations, ultimately resulting in the company having a deep and unique expertise which was sought by clients on almost every continent. While having worked in many countries, she has broad experience in China, having consulted there for over 20 years.

 

Dr. Reid has a great passion for higher education and healthcare, and has a long history of community and business leadership. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees of The Ohio State University (and of Xavier University.

 

The Ohio State University (OSU) has over 63,000 students and is a nationally and internationally ranked public research and undergraduate institution. At OSU, Dr. Reid is Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, Chair of the Governance Committee, Vice Chair of the Talent and Compensation Committee and member of the Academic Affairs and Student Life Committee. She is former Chair of the Advancement Committee which guided the completion of a $3bn campaign (exceeding the goal of $2.5bn). She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Wexner Center for the Arts, OSU’s renowned contemporary art laboratory and museum center.

 

Xavier University (XU), with 7,000 undergraduate and graduate students, is a private, Catholic, Jesuit institution located in Cincinnati, Ohio, that forms students intellectually and morally so to be of service to others. On XU’s board, Dr. Reid chairs the Academic Affairs and Student Life Committee and serves on the Executive and Governance Committees.  She is past Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee and the former Academic Affairs Committee.

 

Dr. Reid’s extensive healthcare experience spans 25 years and includes serving on the Board of Directors of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, a $2bn academic medical center comprised of a College of Medicine, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, six hospitals, 900+ beds, 12+ research institutes, and primary and specialty care facilities throughout Ohio.  She is Vice Chair of the Mercy Health Cincinnati Market Board of Directors which is part of the $4bn Mercy Health system—the largest healthcare provider in Ohio. Mercy Health owns 23 hospitals, eight senior health and housing facilities, and other health-related entities. It employees 32,000 and is Ohio’s fourth largest employer. She is a former Board member of Catholic HealthCare Partners, (the former name of Mercy Health); ChoiceCare Corporation, a health insurer which sold to Humana; and The Health Foundation of Greater Cincinnati, a $450m foundation formed as a result of the sale of ChoiceCare. She was the founding Chair of the Board of The Health Foundation.

 

In addition to her healthcare and academic board involvement, she is a member of the Procter and Gamble Company’s External Diversity and Inclusion Advisory Board and the Centennial Corporation’s Corporate Board of Advisors (Centennial is a privately held recruiting, executive search and coaching corporation).

 

Dr. Reid is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Cincinnati Branch Board of the Federal Reserve Bank; the Cincinnati USA Chamber of Commerce (the sixth  largest chamber of commerce in the United States where she was the first woman/person of color to be Chair the Board in its 160-year history); the United Way of Greater Cincinnati (a $150m non-profit), where she chaired the Government Affairs Committee; The Greater Cincinnati Foundation ($500m total assets); The Cincinnati branch of the American Red Cross; the Greater Cincinnati YWCA, and many others.

 

Dr. Reid has received numerous honors and awards including: Laureate, the Greater Cincinnati Business Hall of Fame; Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year; Deloitte and Touche 100 Wise Women; A.K. Steel Foundation Steel Magnolia; Procter and Gamble Pioneering Black Woman; Fifth Third Bank Profiles in Courage; Joyce Ivy Foundation Woman of Impact; YWCA Career Woman of Achievement; Girl Scouts Woman of Distinction—Leadership;  U.
